Arthur Dillon Whisson

1885-1958.

Arthur Dillon was born in Whitby on July 3rd 1885.  He was the eldest child
of unmarried Mary Ann Whisson.
However, when his mother married Arthur remained with his Grandfather,
George William Whisson at their Marsey's Yard residence near the riverside.
Whilst playing cornet in the Whitby Town Band at Staithes, a tiny port
further up the North Riding coastline, Arthur met his wife to be, Lillian Davison.
He moved up to Newcastle, where his fiancé lived with her river pilot
father, William. Marrying in the Northumbrian city in January 1906.
Arthur's grandfather, George travelled all the way up from Whitby for this
special occasion.
They soon moved further up the coast to Amble, where their 3 children,
James Dunwoodie, William George Davison & Isabel Mary were born.
Arthur, being a very intelligent man, felt frustrated in his career, working
in the laundry, family painting & decorating business & mining before his
retirement.
Lillian died aged only 51 in 1936 from diabetes & other complications.
A widower, Arthur lived a further 22 years, becoming a great-grandfather,

looked after by his daughter, Maisey & her husband, Bob Raffle,

who lived in the flat above him during his final years, at Hadston,  Broomhill.
Arthur passed away at the age of 72 near Amble in 1958.
