Irish Whissons

 

Wow! I shall be putting my findings on my Whisson kin's roots in Ireland on this page!

 I'll have to get to the places below sometime!

 

I didn't realize there were any Whisson connections to Eire aside from my adventures there until I came across an entry from the 1901 Census of England & Wales registering a Mr. Whisson residing in Liverpool, who claimed to have been born in Ireland. Since then via the Irish Roots Hunters group on Facebook & other internet sources I have so far found 26 references to the name in the Emerald Isles between the 18th & 19th Centuries.

 

Here are my findings so far.

 

Birth of Julia Fogarty  in Dublin in 1872. Baptized 1872 at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Parish Church.

Lived at 30 Sandwith Place, Dublin.

Father's name Michael Fogarty.  Mother's name Anne Whisson.

*Sponsor 1= Thomas Whisson. Sponsor 2 = Anne Whelan.

 

Marriage of Thomas McDermott to Anna Whisson on 13/3/1787 at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Parish Church in Dublin.

 

Birth of James Cullen of 6 Castle Street, Dublin on 16/1/1872. Baptized at Roman Catholic Parish Church of St. Michael & John.

Father's name James Cullen. Mother's name Eliza Whisson.

*Sponsor= Julia Whisson.

 

Catherine Fogerty-daughter of Timothy Fogerty & Anne Whisson, Donnybrook, Dublin. Born in 1 July 1864.

 

A Michael Whisson is noted on the records as *Sponsor of the record of the baptism of  Andrew Whelan of 1 Trinity Place,  of the  Parish of St. Andrew in Dublin in 1871.
